SWN Stadtwerke Neumünster GmbH and the municipality of Neumünster decided on an integrated waste management concept. It consists of a mechanical-biological-treatment plant (MBT) with an additional fuel refinement section. Here the high calorific fraction from the MBT becomes a high quality secondary fuel. A new boiler at the combined heat and power (CHP) plant of the SWN Stadtwerke Neumünster GmbH uses the refuse-derived-fuel (RDF) for the production of electricity and provides far heating for 17,000 homes.
